Ganapathy Subramaniam (Gani) is the Founding Managing Partner of Yali Capital and is also a deep-tech industry veteran with over 35 years of experience. He began his career at Texas Instruments, where he held senior leadership roles (across both India and the US) in mixed-signal and wireless engineering. In 2005, he co-founded Cosmic Circuits, one of India’s pioneering semiconductor product companies, which was acquired by Cadence in 2013. He later served as Chairman of Cirel Systems, acquired by Micron in 2023. Gani serves on the boards of several deep-tech companies and actively mentors entrepreneurs building world-class technology businesses from India.
After completing my engineering at NIT Trichy, I hoped to pursue a master’s degree at the Indian Institute of Science. Instead, I joined Texas Instruments (TI). Looking back, TI was a university in itself. It helped me build deep technical skills and, more importantly, taught me the value of ethics and strong professional values.
In 2005, along with a few colleagues from TI, I co-founded Cosmic Circuits. It was one of the first semiconductor product companies to come out of India. The company won the TSMC IP Partner Award twice and was later acquired by Cadence Design Systems.
I then entered the investment world without a clear plan. During this phase, I closely followed the journey of ideaForge from its angel round to becoming a publicly listed company. At one point, I had to choose between starting another deep-tech company or continuing in investing. I chose investing, as it allowed me to work with talented entrepreneurs across many fields.
I am thankful for the support and guidance of Mathew Cyriac and Lip-Bu Tan. At Yali, we aim to help build world-class deep-tech companies from India. We prefer teams with multiple founders who are grounded, value strong processes, and follow good governance. We believe India will create outstanding deep-tech companies in the coming decade.
